In case you are using an external webcam, check whether it is compatible with the software you are trying to use. This includes both your operating system, webcam drivers, and software that you use it with. Make sure that all of your software is up to date. For Windows, navigate to the Control Panel, and select 'View Devices and Printers' to see current devices. For Mac users, you can check hardware status at: About This Mac → System Report → Devices. When plugging in a new accessory like the webcam, your computer typically will notify you through a small audio signal or an on screen notification. If you are using an external webcam, double check that it is plugged in via USB socket and that its connection cable is not damaged. Webcam recording: If you want the option to record your webcam (either by itself or at the same time as a screen capture) then this is a feature to look out for, as not all screen recorders offer this.Įffects: This might not be something you need, but if you’re creating professional videos, look out for web recorders that offer effects like chroma key (to add different virtual backgrounds) as well as other effects like blur or zoom.īy taking some time to think about the factors and features that matter the most to you, you’ll have a better chance of choosing the best online screen recorder to suit your needs. Is your webcam not working? Are you not seeing an image or any information? No problem, just follow these simple steps and we'll get your webcam working in a jiffy: Step 1. Some recorders only use system audio, but for the best audio quality – without background noise – look for one that allows you to use an external mic. Watermarks: You’ll find free recorders that watermark every video, and those that don’t – so if you don’t want branding on your captures, look for one where you can remove watermarks.Īudio quality: It’s not just the video quality that matters – the audio is also vital to ensure those watching your video can understand what you’re saying. Markup: If you’re creating tutorials or training videos, you might want a web recorder with markup options so you can annotate and draw on your screen captures. Also consider what output formats are supported, such as AVI, MP4, MOV, etc.Įditing tools: Some web recorders have no editing tools at all, others offer basic tools to trim and crop your videos, while some have a full editing suite available to help you create polished, professional videos. There are some recorders that don’t do either and simply allow you to share your creations online. Video output/download: Look for a screen recorder online that allows you to download your videos to your device – or to the Cloud if you don’t want to store files on your hard drive. If professional, crisp videos are a must, you’ll want to opt for those providing HD output. Video quality: Some recorders capture your screen in SD quality, while others offer HD 1080p resolution. Whether you’re using a Mac, Linux, or Windows system or looking for a recorder with an iOS or Android app, you need to ensure the recorder you choose is compatible with your OS. There are a number of different factors you’ll want to consider:

It would be much nicer if we could simply use a PC video card in the system, as it would greatly expand the possibilities for upgrades and do so at much better prices. The problem is that the first option is a fairly low end GPU, and the remaining two are fairly expensive upgrades at $499 and $399 respectively. Apple only offers three video card options for the Mac Pro: a GeForce 7300 GT, Quadro FX 4500 and a Radeon X1900 XT. With Windows XP now working at full speed on the Mac Pro, we run into another hurdle in making the Mac Pro the perfect XP/OS X workstation: the video card. If you've done it correctly, your SATA drives should now operate in Multi-Word DMA Mode 2 instead of PIO Mode when viewed in Device Manager. The fix is simple you need to download and extract the Intel chipset drivers for the 5000X, as well as the SATA drivers, and use a tool such as nLite to slipstream the drivers into your XP SP2 install CD. We couldn't find a reason why this was true, but after following the instructions posted here (and later mirrored here) our SATA problems went away. Thankfully, some clever OS X/XP users figured out the cause of the problem: the Intel 5000X drivers must be slipstreamed into the Windows XP SP2 install CD and loaded during Windows setup, not after, in order to avoid the problem. Video and CPU performance was fine, but with I/O performance so low the system was a very poor performer in most applications. When we first reviewed the Mac Pro, we of course tried to install Windows XP on it.Īlthough Apple's Bootcamp beta now allows you to install Windows on a separate hard drive, you'll need to physically remove your OS X boot drive before beginning the install process otherwise you'll be greeted with the following error:Įven with Apple's updated Bootcamp 1.1 beta release, we encountered serious performance issues with SATA drives under XP the fastest transfer rate attainable, regardless of drive used, was only 3.9MB/s, which obviously made the system very slow. He wipes his left glove on his pants, takes out the charcoal from his pocket and starts scribbling. The writing on his forearm reads: "I am not your enemy." The man is standing in front of me, his hand reaching towards me. Without loosening his grip, the man raises his left arm, bringing his forearm to my face. It is fused with a porous helmet, pulsating to the rhythm of his breath. The old sack covering his body slides down, revealing his chest, covered in horrid growths. The man grabs my arm and pulls me closer.Ī strong smell of mushrooms assails my nostrils. I see some new words written on his forearm. He shakes the dust off his clothes, then rolls up the sleeve of his, seemingly too small, jacket. Visibly struggling, the man drops the sack from his back and bends in half, as if out of breath. He shows me what he's written, then wipes it with his sleeve and continues scribbling.Īfter making sure I've also read the second sentence, the man takes out a full tank of gasoline from his sack. He takes out a piece of charcoal and starts writing on his palm. Suddenly he starts to move quicker, as if looking for something in his pockets. I can only see my own faint reflection in the semi-transparent visor of his helmet. The man takes a step in my direction and pats me on the shoulder. His stock replenishes itself every morning. The Protagonist will gain reputation with him for each survived night, depending on the hideout (later hideouts give more Reputation), which can be used to buy items from him. It is possible however, for him to appear on the morning of Day 1, if the protagonist visits the Wolf's Camp (Dry Meadow) and speaks to the Wolfman on Day 1. The Trader will appear at the Protagonist's Hideout every morning, beginning on Day 2. The Protagonist appears to know his face, and indeed, the Trader will treat him well, almost like an old friend. His headgear is so heavy that all of his speech is muffled, so he communicates with the Protagonist through body language and writing on the glove of his left hand. Another sack, containing his trade goods, hangs from his back. He is a man standing at roughly the same height as the Protagonist, with a large helmet on his Head, covered by a large sack worn like a hood. A business or website has to intentionally add tools, such as the Facebook Tracking Pixel or Facebook SDK (Software Development Kit) to its website to send the visitor's information back to Facebook.Ĭurrently in the U.S., 59.7% of the top 6,000 websites have Facebook tracking, compared to Google trackers on 86.4% of the websites. Only the businesses and apps that are using Facebook's business tools share the information they collect with Facebook. "Off-Facebook Activity" is not like a detailed log book of all the activity of a Facebook user when they leave Facebook. While many online stores, websites and apps will appear in the list, not "everything" a user has done is recorded there. This post claims that "every single activity you did on your phone when not using Facebook" will be listed in the "Off-Facebook Activity" section in the control panel of Facebook settings. So, don't say I haven't done anything for you this year.I just did. Check your Facebook settings regularly to know if there's anything NEW. I guess the only way to avoid all these unwarranted intrusion into our privacy is to uninstall these snooping apps. Who knows the level of snooping those apps secretly do on us as we use them? I guess we might never know. Facebook owns WhatsApp and Instagram, which are other popular social media apps. Then go to manage future activity and turn it off. To stop this unwarranted intrusion, go to more options click on it. One example is this post (archived here) published by Igweocha Cable Network on January 27, 2021, under the title "How Facebook Has Been Secretly Monitoring You." It opened: The claim surfaced in late January 2021 and was presented in several forms. Some posts claim that there is a connection between Off-Facebook Activity and a " configuration change" that caused many people to be suddenly logged out of their Facebook account on January 22, 2021. If such information were leaked, that would constitute a data breach in the security of the bank or the email service provider. There are limits to what is tracked and the details of someone's banking transactions or the contents of their private emails, and information from password-protected accounts are not what is collected. Tracking is not something new, it has been a part of Facebook's business model for years. Did Facebook add a new feature that has allowed the platform to monitor and track a user's activity - including online banking - and read their email even when they are off Facebook, and has this been going on for the last two months? No, Facebook does not snoop in a user's banking transactions or read emails they send, but the "Off-Facebook Activity" may track more of their online activity than a user realizes. LibreOffice actually grew out of OpenOffice, which used to be the de facto alternative to Microsoft Office. Even complex Excel spreadsheets imported into LibreOffice Calc work as they should. LibreOffice also does a good job in regards to formatting when importing Microsoft Office documents. So you can sync files from Google Drive or OneDrive and edit them right in LibreOffice (there's no collaboration feature, though). To make the deal even sweeter, LibreOffice recently added an online component. Unlike Google's apps, the LibreOffice suite comes with featured-packed offline desktop apps with all the pro features you expect. If you're used to the Microsoft Office user interface (pre-Ribbon era), it won't take you long to adjust to LibreOffice. It's by far one of the best Microsoft Office 365 alternatives for Mac users. This means it's completely free and available on a host of platforms. But their Office deal has been running for over a year, and the license that ZDNET's Alison DeNisco Rayome bought through it for a personal MacBook last year is still working.LibreOffice is widely recognized as the best open-source alternative to the Microsoft Office 365 suite. One caveat to note: While StackSocial is an authorized Microsoft partner and offers "lifetime" access to Microsoft Office, it is possible that Microsoft could end the license. After purchase, you'll instantly receive a link to download and a key to activate the software. Unlike Microsoft 365, which charges a yearly subscription fee, this license allows you to download the app suite and use it for life. Whatever you need, Microsoft Office 2021 probably has it. How about collaborating in real-time? Teams. Throw together a professional presentation? Check out PowerPoint's preset templates. Want to create a budget spreadsheet? Use Excel. Need to type an essay for class? Open Word. With the complete set of apps at your fingertips, you'll be prepared for just about any personal, professional, or creative project. If you’d rather not listen to bad language, well, you’ve been warned. Oh, and in this episode there are a few swear words, so expect them to jump out here and there. One of their biggest rivals has been The Pirate Bay and this battle fascinates me, so let’s get into it. So, it looks like the music industry has really failed to adapt to the digital age when it comes to copyright and they have faced many fierce opponents in this battle. Or what if I’m just totally done with the songs I’ve downloaded and paid for, like MP3s I bought from iTunes or Amazon? Can I resell those? Like, is there a used MP3 marketplace somewhere? No, a judge has ruled that’s illegal, too. So, if I loan out an MP3, I’m only gonna loan out a copy of that which now means I’m making copies and giving them out. I learned my lesson from that scratched CD I’m backing up all my music in multiple places so that I don’t lose it. Do I have the right to let my friends borrow it just like I did with CDs? I think if they actually take my ability away to play that MP3 then it is legal, so if I give them a hard drive or that’s the only copy of the MP3 I have and it’s on there, then that’s okay, but no, no, no, there’s no way I’m loaning my only MP3 out to my friend on a hard drive. Or, let’s say I go into iTunes and buy a song in digital form, like an MP3. Apparently I only purchased a license to listen to it myself, but what if that CD got scratched, lost, or broken? I bought the license to listen to it, right? So therefore if it got scratched, I should be able to download it and listen to it because I still have the license, right? Yeah, no, that’s illegal. When I had CDs, for example, I could loan out a CD to my friend and that was legal, but I wasn’t allowed to make a copy of that CD and loan the copies out. JACK: I’m honestly confused on what pirating music actually is. |
